In the mid-90's, I had the opportunity to live in Zimbabwe for several months. One of the highlights of that visit was a trip through the eastern highlands. During the time I had lived in South Africa, during the mid-70's, this area was one of the most active in Zimbabwe's war for independence. It lies directly next to Mozambique so was a place for soldiers to move back and forth across the border....a difficult place for anyone to live.
When I visited, it was peaceful. We stayed on a tea estate - the attached picture is one of three small paintings I did later of this beautiful area. This particular picture is my impression of the fields and the building where the tea was processed. It is part of a triptych that hangs in my kitchen - more later. I drink tea from Zimbabwe whenever I come across it.
